J. M. W. Turner
An English painter (1775-1851), born in London and a major figure in the English School, Turner plays an essential role because he was the precursor of the impressionist movement.
In his landscapes he often expresses changes in nature with changing, phantasmagorical intensities of light, which he felt very personally. He painted skilfully not only in watercolours and on canvas but also in pastels.
